True Repentence and the Fruit of the Spirit

Rise Above by Gwen Shamblin

Rise Above

True repentance means a change of mind brought about by godly sorrow that leads to a change of life (2 Cor. 7:10). Repentance is the major foundation of bearing any fruit. When you repent, the spirit of Jesus can come into your life. The fruit of the spirit of Jesus is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, and it is manifested in many ways (Gal. 5:22–23). You need to have them all—not just one or two. Even pagans can have one or two of these without having the spirit of Christ. But Galatians 5:16–17a, 24 says, So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. . . . Those who belong to Christ Jesus [abide in Christ] have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
