To help us along, God gives us plenty of incentive. We start to learn to love by the revelation of His Love. It gives us motivation to love in return. God has always tried to build a Community of Love. Look back—it is all written there. One of the most beautiful, poetic passages on the planet is in Exodus 19:
“You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Exodus 19:4-6a
This is how to fall in love! You yourself have seen what He has done. Look at what God has done in your life…“how I carried you on eagles’ wings.” How beautiful it is to escape that old life! He has carried you and taken you away from it. And now He has brought you to Himself. This is God speaking to you, “…and I brought you to myself.” How deep can that be? Then look at this, “If you obey me fully and keep my covenant…then you will be my treasured possession…” Exodus 19:5 You will be my treasure…
