The Ongoing Characteristic of Mercy

History of the Love of God

The all-important daily instructional prayer of Christ indicates that this is so important and foundational to God that it should be prayed every day.

“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14

God expects us to have the ongoing characteristic of mercy in the heart for our fellow brother in Christ…“Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.” “Have forgiven” is past tense; therefore, it is not something that you will be doing as you are trying to muster up some mercy—it is done. It is a state of mind, an ongoing, constant forgiveness.

In Mark 11:25 it says, “And when you stand praying, if you hold any-thing against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may for-give you your sins.” You are blocking your own salvation if you do not have this ongoing, constant mindset. God is calling us to have a peaceful continual state of a long-suffering, compassionate, forgiving heart. It is a prerequisite of God forgiving our sins. So when you do this, then you can ask for anything…anything! And it will be given to you.
