The way God was able to coordinate everything in nature was awesome to me! I could observe His incredible genius simply by looking at His creative ideas in our two-acre backyard in Memphis, Tennessee. I was just wowed by how God decorated the backs of ladybugs and the way He made color and fragrance come out of the ground in the form of a flower. How in the world did He put lights on the backs of bugs in the evening sky?

When I was studying for my undergraduate degree in dietetics and my master’s degree in nutrition, I realized that due to my faith in a personal and caring God, I fundamentally disagreed with some of the conclusions I was taught. My belief was that God had designed every aspect of life in each and every animal. Even the personalities and senses of humor were programmed by God. Cats were snobby, and dogs were happy-go-lucky and without a chip on their shoulders.

My faith was strong enough to believe that He was the genius behind digestion and absorption. After all, God knows exactly what happens to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after you swallow it…
