Truly Loving Your Brother as Yourself

History of the Love of God

If you loved your brother as yourself, you would not have feelings of hate or murder because you do not want to hurt yourself. Hate is a combination of revenge, jealousy, anger, discord, impatience, lack of respect, bitterness, and unforgiveness. You would never talk badly about someone if you loved them. You would never consider doing any of the things you would not want someone else to do to you. Love could not imagine hurting someone’s feelings. Love would never ostracize or demean. It would be impossible to ignore some-one’s needs. It would be inconceivable to spread gossip and leave seeds of slander that would harm another’s business or livelihood, ruin their friendships or destroy their joy in life. You are robbing them of the money that is needed to feed themselves and their children. It would be incomprehensible to inflict pain, much less murder! How thoughtlessly lazy of us not to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before we judge.
